Kulturcafe Hellerau, Dresden

Kleiner Entwurf Baukonstruktion, Wintersemester 19/20

At the entrance to the Hellerau Festival Hall in Dresden, the new visitor:inside center unfolds and welcomes guests directly from the streetcar station.

The S-shaped floor plan takes up the architecture of the surrounding buildings, but clearly shows itself as a new building through the dynamics of the form. The free and moving envelope of the building invites to discover the interior in more detail and surprises with a high reception room, where the cultural café is located.

On the upper floor there is an exhibition and for cultural events there is a multifunctional hall on the first floor. The open and high design of the interior in combination with a wide window front creates a flowing connection between outside and inside.

The supporting structure consists of spatially tilted wooden beams and additionally stiffens due to the angling. The vertical wooden facade design emphasizes the angles of the building and is reminiscent of the dark wood cladding of the traditional garden city houses in Hellerau.
