Urban design, Berlin
4. Hauptentwurf, summersemester 2021
The design "Kanaleck - a biodiverse urban quarter" meets the current challenges of the climate crisis, as well as the lack of housing supply in Berlin, with a proposed solution that exploits both the biodiversity and climate properties as well as the subtitle favor of the area close to the city center.
A fresh air corridor characterizes the design in terms of urban planning and creates a green bicycle express link between Adlershof and Neukölln. The proposed streetcar line in east-west direction between Tempelhof and Baumschulenweg provides a public transport connection to the area.
The proximity to Berlin's city center, the Britzer Verbindungskanal, Teltowkanal and the autobahn provide an ideal branch point for the transshipment of goods. With the design of a port, we propose an urban industry, which in the future will offer a climate-friendly alternative for today's usual goods traffic.
The former tree nursery Späth will become a creative and cultural center. Here, living, working, crafts and culture will take place in a dense mixture. Future-oriented forms of living with more social coexistence, are offered in modular and flexible floor plans for mixed user:inside groups.
